On Focus and Mental Clarity

Finding Focus

As I continue on my personal wellness journey while also navigating life as a woman entrepreneur, mother, friend, daughter, spouse, and so much more, I am realizing how important it is to maintain a clear focus when it comes to my mental health and personal growth.

Over the years, my work, goals, and priorities have evolved many times. With each new chapter, I find myself asking what truly matters, where I want to invest my energy, and what areas I still want to grow and learn in. More and more, I have come to understand the importance of being intentional about where I spend my time, money, and energy, and of choosing environments that support my growth and align with my values and vision.

As May came to a close, I also found myself reflecting on Mental Health Awareness Month. My work is deeply connected to mental health and wellbeing, not only because of my professional background, but because I am invested and intentionally working on my wellbeing everyday. I have always been drawn to the ongoing work of showing up consistently, creating spaces for movement, connection, reflection, and community throughout the year. For me, mental wellbeing is not something we focus on for one month; it is something we nurture through the choices we make every day.

This process has required slowing down and taking an honest look at what is working and what is not. It has also meant saying no to certain opportunities, commitments, and connections that, while appealing on the surface, do not contribute to my long-term personal or professional goals.

When we think about improving our wellbeing, there is often a strong emphasis on finding external activities that bring us joy, reduce stress, or support our health. While those things matter, I believe there is another important piece that is often overlooked: the people and communities surrounding those activities.

As I started and grew my business, I found many programs, networking groups, and professional spaces that seemed promising. Some offered valuable resources and opportunities. Yet, when I spent time within those circles, I sometimes encountered environments that felt competitive, draining, or disconnected from the values I was hoping to find. The activity itself may have been positive, but the experience was shaped just as much by the people involved.

That realization has led me back to a few important questions:

  • Where am I going?

  • Is this still the path I want to be on?

  • Have I been pulled away from my own goals by the needs or expectations of others?

  • Are these the environments and relationships I want to continue cultivating?

  • Do the people around me inspire growth, collaboration, and authenticity?

I don't have the answers to all these questions yet.I am still on the journey of finding the right circles, learning where I belong, and discovering the spaces that truly support both my wellbeing and my work. What I do know is that I continue to return to the people who have shown up consistently through the highs and lows. Those relationships have become some of the strongest reminders of what community can look like.

I am deeply grateful for the family, friends, colleagues, and community members who have supported me along the way. Their encouragement, honesty, and belief in my work have helped me stay grounded during times of uncertainty and growth.

As you reflect on your own journey and if this idea of finding focus resonates with you, I invite you to consider:

  • Where are you investing most of your energy right now?

  • Which relationships and communities help you feel supported and inspired?

  • What opportunities are aligned with your values, and which ones may be pulling you away from them?

  • What would it look like to give yourself permission to say no to what no longer serves your growth?

Sometimes wellness is not about doing more. Sometimes it is about choosing more carefully where, how, and with whom we spend our time.

That is a lesson I am still learning.
