Looking Back to Shape 2026
As we approach the holidays and end of the year, there may be an encouragement or tendency to look at the upcoming year, think of future goals and new year resolutions. I find it more helpful and meaningful to take a pause to take stake at where I am, what was accomplished in the year, what I learned and ways I can use the knowledge gained towards future goals and plans. Our current habits and patterns often predict what our future behaviors will be. While it may not be as exciting as thinking of new goals and new year resolutions, our routines and how we spend our time can reveal important information about ourselves; helping us become more aware of where changes are needed.
When it comes to my own wellbeing and personal growth, I am learning to avoid dwelling on what did not happen, what I couldn’t accomplish but rather look at what took place like one would do an inventory; taking a more objective and pragmatic approach.
Each year gives us new opportunities, challenges and situations that are worth reflecting on and processing to then decide where we stand and which way we want to move forward. This applies to our professional and personal lives.
I invite you to take a moment to consider the following questions and what is true for you:
Where did you invest time and energy over the past year?
What relationships were built, continued, strengthened?
What goals have you accomplished (planned or unplanned)?
What new experiences brought you joy and motivated you?
Based on your answers, are there changes or modifications that would be helpful and possible in the upcoming year? How can you continue contributing to your overall wellbeing?
