Listening to What the Soul Needs

When we think about wellness and the ways we take care of ourselves, our focus tends to be on what our body needs—what is most tangible and physical. Rarely do we go deeper and ask ourselves what our inner being needs.

When we pause to reflect on our inner state, wellness takes on a different meaning. It invites us to explore how we are feeling and how we can find a more meaningful sense of balance.

Some people may not believe in the concept of having a soul, but they may connect with the idea of an emotional self or an inner self. We also know there are effective ways to regulate our nervous system that go far beyond exercise or structured wellness programs.

Today, I want to share a very personal reflection on what my soul needs and what I know nourishes me during moments of confusion, stress, or disconnection from myself.

If I listened to my soul, it would tell me that what it needs, more than anything else, is:

The green of the forests.
Natural light.
Deep, restorative rest.
Long, heartfelt hugs from loved ones.
The sound of birds at sunrise.
The gentle touch of a summer evening breeze.
Watching the clouds and imagining the shapes they become.

And above all, it would remind me that only by slowing down can I truly make space for these needs and these experiences.

What about you? What is your inner self trying to tell you? What would your soul say if it could speak?
